Yes, this is a post about clouds. Lately, I’ve had a fascination with clouds in the sky. I don’t know what it is. I’m sure we can all remember times when we were younger when we’d lie on a hill, a field of grass, on a deck, on a beach, on a drive to and from somewhere, wherever, gazing up at the clouds, trying to make out the shapes floating by, oohing and ahhing when we’d spot something, each of us having different interpretations of the fluffy clouds, mesmerized at how they could so swiftly change shape and transform into something new. Sometimes clouds have a way of streaking across the sky, looking as if someone had painted them across the blue sky so effortlessly.

This photo captures the essence of this well. When I was in Cape Town, I went to a place called Sea Point one afternoon with my friend Themba. What a beautiful place. We took a walk all the way down and back. At the time, I was still getting used to my new camera and so I believe part of this is a fluke shot because it turned out amazing. It looks almost like a painting. It captures Sea Point so well, from the houses overlooking the water, to the fishermen standing on the rocks hoping to reel in some fish, the rocks scattered ahead of them and of course, those wispy clouds that brush across the blue sky. Simply stunning.

It’s worth noting that the title of this entry was inspired by yet another DJ Eco song of the same name. Stay tuned for a post titled “Over Paper Skies”, featuring shots from the plane and places where I’ve had the opportunity to reach greater heights and look down below. The movie “Up” just popped into my head, that makes me think of what it’d be like to be up in the sky, almost amidst the clouds in a hot air balloon, something which is on my bucket list to do 🙂
